Episode 56. Easy Sports Adaptation with Kirsten French

Most of us tend to worry about how we can make our classrooms and teachings more accessible to our students and then being intimidated by the amount of change that you think you have to make. I’m here to tell you that most of the time, the smallest change can lead to a bigger impact.

I’m so excited to be bringing in Kristen French in this week’s podcast! Kirsten French is the programs manager, sport’s adaptations at Camp Spark and co-camp director at Camp Spark for Northwest Association for Blind Athletes. Kirsten found her passion in this field while on her Master’s degree when she saw how much of an impact sports can bring to students who are visually impaired as well as how sports could also act as a catalyst and as a teaching mechanism. In this week’s episode, we will get to hear all about that from Kirsten.

One thing that you will get to take away from this episode with Kirsten is how you can easily change a situation where you feel stuck, simply by adapting and taking things step by step. You will also get to hear more about Kirsten’s sports adaptation program, how it works, how beneficial it is for students, and what other services they provide to teachers, parents, and students to make teaching more accessible without changing how classes are normally taught.

Last but not least, you will get to learn about some general adaptations that you can implement to increase the accessibility of your teaching. And of course how Kirsten and the team are working around with the situation around COVID-19.

Sounds like a lot of things to take away from isn’t it? Head on now to the podcast!
