Episode 23: From Lost in a Bathroom to Independent(ish) Traveler

Have you ever had a student who got lost easily? In 13+ years of teaching Orientation and Mobility, there has been one student who has had so much trouble with spatial awareness, that she got lost in the bathroom stall.

Oftentimes, it's hard to be able to help our students get from point A to point B without prompting them. And our books don't always give us the fullest picture of what we need to do help students with multiple impairments.

However, successful O&M Specialists know that they cannot be expected to know and do everything on their own. It's about collaboration with other people, learning from others, getting their tips and tricks, taking what works for you and applying them.

And so, I am excited to share with you all the lesson plans that I’ve used to help my students. These lesson plans show all of the techniques that were implemented to help our Orientation and Mobility students become more independent travelers. This episode will give you a sneak peek of these techniques which I’m sure you will find useful.
