Episode 22: Assessments for Students with Multiple Impairments

See this content in the original post

In this episode, we are going to be chatting all about assessments for students with multiple impairments. One of the pitfalls of assessing students with multiple impairments is thinking that your student doesn't have multiple impairments. Below are important things to consider.

Define what a student with multiple impairments is.

The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act defines a student with multiple impairments as a student with more than one impairment that affects their learning. For us, just given the nature of our jobs, we are going to classify that as a student with a visual impairment and another impairment.

Assess the student with multiple impairments.

When we are looking at how to conduct an orientation and mobility assessment for students with multiple impairments, it is important to determine how to conduct the assessment and which assessment tool you’re going to use.

Discuss the common pitfalls we fall into.

This is more of like an editorial of just what I've seen what I've experienced. The mistakes I've made, the mistakes that my insurance have made. And I've had a catch the mistakes that I've seen people that I've mentored make.
